Midlands Series 2009
race date:
series information:
The organisers of the Midlands XC series are very pleased to announce details of the 2009 series.
After 2 successful years and thanks to popular demand, the series is growing again and 2009 will bring 4 races at 4 different venues, starting in April and finishing in September.
Midlands XC is also excited to announce that Powerbar are coming on board as title sponsors. The series would not exist without the help of many people and with the additional involvement of local clubs and shops this year, the 2009 series promises to be the best yet!
Not wanting to rest on their laurels and in response to rider feedback, the 2009 series will see several changes:
Thanks to Powerbar, all entrants will receive a free product to try at every round.
In line with the British series, lap lengths are shrinking and lap numbers are increasing for fast and furious racing that’s more spectator friendly.
New race order for 2009 - to balance out morning and afternoon races. Vet, G. Vet and S. Vet Men all race in the morning with the under 18's and Women's cats.
The smell and taste of frying bacon may be great at 6am at a 24hr race, but for carbo-loading and post-race recovery at the 2009 Midlands series expect to see lots of healthier food options available.
Leaner and greener. A commitment to reduce the environmental impact of the series, from recycling of event waste materials to providing top quality number boards that will last all year, thanks to Powerbar.
Live commentary to keep everyone updated with all the action from each race as it happens.
First new category for 2009 - Open Men. Step up from Fun category. Longer distance than fun, but still not too serious. No national ranking points so ideal for those not too competitive or just want to give it a go.
Second new category for 2009 - Super Vets (age 60+). Will race with the Grand Vets (age 50-59), but placings will be separated.
The under-10’s and 12’s races will now feature at 3 rounds this year.
