My name is Ryley Morris I'm
a little boy that many of you in the biking community, may well know, have seen
with my mummy and sister in the pits or have heard about me. My mummy went into
labour 8 weeks early at Bontrager 24/12 in July 2008 and was taken to hospital
by the medics, whilst Daddy packed up camp and thought he had time to go on the
podium and collect his prize!! But, I was in a hurry and he got called to
attend as soon as possible. Daddy arrived and I was born 20 minutes later in
Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. I was 3lb 6oz and during my first week of life I was
ventilated and cared for in special care. Mummy stayed with me and Daddy stayed
over with our super friends, The Horton's (Jay and Mad's). After my week in
Plymouth, I was stable enough to move a little closer to home, to Abergavenny.
I then spent 3 weeks more there. As a consequence of my early birth I was
unfortunately diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral palsy, just before my
first birthday.
Despite my disability, I don't let it stop me following my daddy around the country to watch and cheer him on in his races. However, I cannot sit unaided, only "W" sit and then occasionally I topple over. I cannot stand or walk independently and I have problems balancing.
I attend mainstream pre-school and I have a dream to walk, and
hopefully run and ride a bike just like my sister and daddy! I have now been
accepted to visit Doctor Park in Missouri, America, to have an operation called
SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy), this will severe the nerves that are causing
me to have spastic muscles in legs. Doctor predicts he can make my dreams come true!
We now have to raise the funds to allow me to travel over in
July/August to undergo this life changing operation. We have to raise between
35-50,000 pounds, for the procedure, aftercare, physio and equipment.
Thank you and big
hugs from Ry! X
