Its that time of year again and the cross season is underway. Having had a little dabble at it last year on my mountain bike, I was keen this year to continue, following on from my fairly successful first year at mountain bike racing. However, I didn't want to do it on my mountain bike, if I was going to do it, I wanted a cross bike. So after eyeing up a few second hand ones and a trip to our local bike shop Cycle Tec (Builth Wells) I was sorted, well at least it was ordered. My nice new Moda, was built up at the shop and ready for me to collect on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately I was working on Saturday so didn't get a chance to take it for a spin. Something come race day , I wasn't left with much time to get the hang of the gears, as they were totally different to what I am used to.

After watching the hoards of kiddies racing, and some very impressive racing from little locals Alfie and Finn Davies and the Evans trio and a special mention to my little girly Hali-Rae, who despite been bumped off by a little boy, melting down in streams of tears, carried on and finished the race! It was finally time for the seniors to line up. There must have been about 100 riders. Unable to really grid that amount of riders it was a tussle to the line up and we were off, doing a lap of the rugby field, in an attempt to string us out a bit before heading into the single track. There were 4/5 women in the race and I knew there were a few good riders to keep me on my toes!

However, just into the first lap, and my handlebars didn't feel right, they had dropped! I re positioned them and they just flopped back down. Bugger!! Well to words of that effect! This left me desperately trying to hold the bars up and maintain upright on my bike, as well as shouting for some kind sole to lend me an allen key. Fortunately on the second lap, I came into the pits to get sorted. Cheers!! By this point quite a few riders had got passed me, including a female. So I shoot out of the pits with a chase on to catch Emma Hurrel!! Towards the end of the lap I got back passed and from that moment on I rode to the best I could. I managed to lap a few of the women and get lapped 2 or 3 times by the top guns! Coming into the last lap I managed to catch sight of Emma again and sneakily nipped by.

I crossed the line after what seemed a really long race in a very pleasing first place lady!!! Yay! Unfortunately my other half had not such a good race. He had a blinding start and was running in 4th place on the second lap, but then decided to have a fall out with a hurdle and hit the deck, jammed his bike and wounded himself!! However, he carried on and being a morris, chased like a raging bull. He managed to start gaining back quite a few places and managed to claw his way back to 8th senior I think. Not too bad of a result really after the knock off and riding his piece meal mountain bike!!

Due to a trip back to see Ryley's miracle doctor we will be missing the next round but will be at Mansel Lacey, although severely Jet lagged!!

Well done to all the riders taking part, especially the little ones and the other women. Also thanks to Linsey and Heath, for watching Racey Rae. And can we order more of the same weather for the remainder of the season!
