Following on from the hugely successful Cannock Chase Winter Classic the guys at Run & Ride are excited to announce a brand new weekend event for 2013, over the weekend of April 20 & 21st, brought to you in conjunction with Forme Bikes. Tread OR Shred is a weekend of Running OR Mountain Bike racing (or even both for those that are up for it) with something for the entire family.

As with other events from Run & Ride, the Tread or Shred event will be held in the popular venue of Cannock Chase based in Staffordshire, West Midlands. The venue being perfect for these types of events with hard standing free parking, camping on site, easy road access and incredibly picturesque scenes.

Kicking off proceedings on Saturday morning is a 10K extreme trail run. Matt Williams of Run and Ride said "Following our mountain bike events we started to get a number of requests to hold an event for runners based on a similar course. Taking this into account along with ideas from the ever growing, extreme side of running events we've put together a course that will test people to the limits yet be suitable to all. First and foremost all of our events are about encouraging beginners and newcomers and not just the hardcore racers, although all are more than welcome. Secondly it's all about people being able to run so don't expect any bogs or water crossings that stop you doing just that. On the other hand it's not going to be one of those nancy pansy fire road runs. Mud trails, off camber slippy downhills and lung busting hills. The course will be fully marked and signed with a feed station around half way".

Following the 10K run in the morning they'll be mountain bike races for all ages in the afternoon. Junior's, Youth and Juvenile's will tackle between 1 and 2 of the 10K laps that the runners used in the morning whilst the U13's will use a shortened but still technical loop and the U10's will compete around a simple loop based around the arena.  "We're really keen to offer something for all the family and trying not exclude anybody. The U13's and U10's races have proved to be hugely popular at our other events and we've hoping this one will be no different. For the Juniors, Youth and Juvenile's, they get to ride a far longer lap than they'd be used to racing on offering them something different. Due to popular demand we've also added a Fun / First Timer single lapper race in the afternoon. We've experienced massive amount of interest from MTB newcomers this year and we want to try and encourage these guys and girls where possible".

With Saturday's races all done and dusted things move on to the 2hr or 4hr Mountain Bike Enduro being held on Sunday 21st. Again based on a very similar course to the one used the days before the simple idea is (A) you pick your time duration - 2 or 4hr and then (B) complete as many laps as you can within the time period. All the 2hr racers will start at the same time as will the 4hr riders. You'll be able to stop for refreshments at any point during the race if you wish. Lap length will be around 10K and take between 40 to 60 minutes to complete. "We're going to put on a real fun but hard course. It'll be very similar to what we use for our normal XC races but longer. Lots of fun singletrack, off camber rooty sections and sorry to say nasty, hellish climbs! It's going to be a challenge no matter what level you ride at whilst at the same time suitable for all levels including beginners. Just to come along and have a go!"

Throughout the whole weekend the guys from Forme Bikes will be showing off their 2013 range of bikes. They'll be catering offering quality homemade food, along with the ever popular "Real" coffee cart. Other trade stands, photographers, a physiotherapist plus Run & Rides own little shop will be there for all the essentials available.

Entry is now open and can be found at www.treadandshred.co.uk along with further details of the weekend's events.
