After the success of the Cannock Chase Winter Classic in February (over 400 riders took part) the guys at Run & Ride are back with more this July.

For those that aren't aware Run & Ride tailor their events more towards enthusiastic beginners and the 'Weekend Warrior' types, rather than out and out racers. Matt Williams of Run and Ride said, "The Midland's XC Series caters for the hardcore racers chasing British Cycling points which gives us some freedom to approach things a little differently. We work with British Cycling and run the races under the "GoRace" banner meaning we can mix things up a bit with the categories to try and make the racing close and in some ways more competitive. It seemed to work well in previous events when we had close racing between riders of all ages. One thing we're doing for this year is splitting the Beginners & Fun class so the real beginners don't have the worry of getting destroyed in their first event. We want to make sure they really enjoy it and want to race again!"

"An added extra for the summer event is that entry for the ladies starts at just 2.50! We would dearly love to see the number of female riders smash what we and other races would normally expect to see. At this price we feel there really is nothing to lose by biting the bullet and having a go... we dare you not to love it! Coupled with the kids races that are held in the middle of the day this all helps to make the entire experience something for whole family to enjoy!"

Expect a similar course to the one used in February plus a few minor changes. Plenty of nice techy, but fast flowing singletrack. Some lung busting climbs mixed up with a few fire-road sections. "The race course area is right on our doorstep so we know the trails like the back of our hand. We've tried to include the best the area has to offer whilst ensuring the course has a good flow to it. With the backing of the Forestry Commission we're able to cut a few new trails specifically for the event. As we said above the events are primarily about the fun and newcomers, so whilst the course has sections to keep the hardened racer happy it's also suitable for all skill levels. Another bonus is that the area of Cannock Chase drains extremely well which makes it ideal for racing no matter what the weather decides to do.

The event is very kindly supported by Accelerade & a select band of generous local business' who will all be supplying prizes for the podium finishers along with cash prizes for the Elite / Racing Snake category. Photography requirements are taken care of via local company Curley Photography, glossy prints of images will be available to order online after the event. Also available on the day will be fresh seasonal food from Park Hill Farm Caterers and "real" coffee via Per-Cup Coffee Company.

Online entry is available at www.cannockchasesummerclassic.co.uk and will remain open until Friday 5th July. It's highly recommended that riders pre-enter as 3 male categories completely sold out last time round. If available, entry on the day may be possible with a small surcharge of 2 per entry (this is waived for U13's and U10's). Camping is available all weekend for a small charge (2.50 per night) plus there will be a 50p parking charge on the day.
