Just had a weeks holiday in which of course bikes were ridden a lot. The week started with a couple of social Mountain bike rides on our local trails. It was great blasting round these again, or trying to. Living in South Wales has its bonuses with its hilly character giving us plenty of descents to scare ourselves on.

Some of the descents are fairly technical and others just look a lot worse than they are.  Marks helping words "To make the corner you have just got to be prepared to hit the tree" although made sense did not encourage me to toughen up and have ago. Fourteen weeks off the mtb with the broken pelvis has left me feeling vulnerable and has definitely affected the way I ride, I have lost the confidence which took a long time to build up. I spent quite a bit of time scrambling down sections in disbelief that I had ever ridden them. Sure it will all come back in due course.

We joined Phil Morris for a road ride on the Tuesday around Llyn Brianne reservoir. Absolutely stunning ride with very steep hills in a part of mid Wales I have never explored. On one descent I had a near collision with a buzzard which swooped out of the trees towards my head, they are massive birds, especially inches from your face.

Phil and Mark waiting by Llyn Brianne reservoir.

Wednesday we decided to calm the mtb down and practice skills round the trails at Forest of Dean. Thursday building up the miles with a 70 mile road ride which was fantastic - would have struggled to ride that distance a week ago. A rest day Friday and another 55 mile road ride Saturday. The week ended at Torq 12 with the xcracer 29ers racing in the mixed team category. Fantastic racing again, a good event to get me back into the racing scene and the first time I used the Maxx-D light which was just amazing. Looking forward to Kielder 100 next week.
