Last Sunday (6th May 2012) took me to the 12th Dyfi Enduro held at Machynlleth.

It was a glorious day compared to the weather of the previous week with perfect riding conditions, not being too hot or cold.

As I am currently in the process of a change of bike I did not have my mountain bike available. With  thanks to the guys at Cycle Tec, Builth Wells they managed to rig me up with a Kona King Kahuna 29er, being on a "bend it mend it deal". I was a bit skeptical knowing that the Dyfi is a rocky course but took the risk and glad that I did. The bike was riding lovely and the only time riding it before was around the car park I felt really comfortable on it.

Originally, I was unsuccessful to gain an entry to the Enduro online but fortunately for me a friend was not going so I managed to acquire their entry.

Getting there in the morning and signing on was again another easy experience considering I had to change the information. Thanks to Mark Stephens for taking me.

I lined up at the start for the riders briefing before setting off on the hard 60km route. On reaching the first climb and from doing the Dyfi Winter Warm up earlier this year, I recalled that it was a long first climb where the fast pace was set by Nick Craig, before reaching the single track decent where unfortunately I lost my water bottle.

I carried on along the forestry roads and rocky descents to reach the feed station where thankfully I could get myself a drink.

I then carried on along the track and found that riders were coming along the track to meet me including Nick Craig and a few other leading riders and they told me that they had made a wrong turn so headed back along the track to find the trail.

As I reached the 10km to go marker I felt like I had plenty left in the tank and remembered that there was plenty of climbing in this section and felt as though I could pull back some time on the people in front. I passed a couple of riders and had a battle with a few other riders down the last descent to finish 6th overall.

I am pleased with my performance at this event as I am only 17 and hadn't done a ride over 2hours for the past couple of months as I have been training and competing in xc racing.  I thought I would tire and hit a wall but instead felt good for the last few kilometres.

This event is definitely a must for next season and don't forget about the howies Coed Y Brenin enduro on the 29th September 2012.

Thanks to - Kona Grassroots /  mtb-marathon.co.uk and also Cycle Tec for setting me up with a Kona King Kahuna 29er.
