I'm thinking of signing up for this years Kielder 100. The question I need answering is what sort of training regime do I need between now and then to get me ready. All I want is to get round within the time limits and not suffer too much. This year I've done the Buith Wells CRC, Dyfi enduro and Marshbrook CRC last sunday in 4:01. I know this is a big step up in distance and nothing like what I've done so far this year so I'd be grateful for any advice.

PS. I could probably, being realistic, manage 8hours training a week between now and then.

If you did the 75km at Marshbrook in 4:01, you probably don't have too much to worry about in terms of finishing!

Probably stating the obvious here(!), but I'd say training over the next 6 weeks should focus on high end aerobic work (ideally over some long distances) with lots of climbing along the way.  Some anaerobic intervals (eg climbing intervals) would be a good idea too, as would a decent programme of core strength work.

Suggest having a couple of phases, with a bit of a rest in the middle; build to a peak about two weeks before and then taper.  Hope that helps! smile

Hey Joe, you mention Taper training for the last two weeks, can you elaborate please ? This is my first year racing and always hear the term knocked about,

I'm no expert on this(!), but I think the basic principle is to reduce the duration and intensity of your workouts in the run-up, to allow your body to "supercompensate" and recover fully in time for the big event.  Each individual is different though, and will need a different taper depending on the amount of training done and the event you're leading up to.  I recall reading that 2 weeks is a good taper for a marathon event, and it seems to work for me, but I guess shorter is possible if you're young, superfit etc!

his amazing race attracts worldwide interest and offers excitement both at participating athletes and spectators. The route will include both paths and gravel roads in forested landscapes as well as small asphalt sections. The race will be a real mountain adventure for those who love mtb!
