Since picking my lovely new shiny bike last Friday from Gateway cycles in Abergavenny, today was my chance to have a play with it!! I decided to not use it last weekend for the mini Dyfi, as I had not had an opportunity to pre-test ride it.

After getting all the bits off my old bike like bottle cages and pedals, I was ready for the maiden ride.

To say the weather was a bit blowy would be an understatement! But having made my mind up the night before I wasn't going to let that stop me. So armed with my Multi-tool for any minor adjustments I set off.

The bike is an Giant XTC advanced 1 which is one of the lightest bikes I've ever ridden. It was long before I started to appreciate how responsive it is. Having ridden 29ers for the past couple of years it always a change going back to a 26er but it didn't take long to adjust. (But I have to admit I do miss those big wheels)

With it been so windy I didn't spend long on the tops due to the fear of been blown off! So instead I headed to forest fields for a couple of laps in the woods which was great fun. I arrived home about 2hours later with a big smile on my face, but that may have been due to the high winds as much as anything else!!

For my first ride I really enjoyed my new bike and I only need to make a few adjustments to the seat and a slightly stiff link. Not sure about the white wheels though might be a bit to bling for me!

This finished off another pretty good weeks training for me, feels like I'm actually making some progress now after a terrible December.

Looking forward to the first round of the welsh now, next weekend at Pontypridd.
