The Hell of the South is one great big day in the dirt, taking riders out of Poole and onto amazing trails. The terrain is varied and is for the most part off road with a few tarmac linking sections on quiet county roads. It’s based on our great Hell of the West down in Devon.
Total distance for the The Hell of the South will be around 70km with a bail out option possible if you’re not feeling so great on the day. It’s a timed event but it’s not a race, there’s no prizes for winning but there’ll be a medal at the end. It’s not really suitable for complete beginners. We have 200 places available for this first year.
As with all great bike rides it'll start at Rockets & Rascals, crossing the timing start en-route and heading around the harbour towards Wareham, this is where the action begins. The ride will give you the best trail riding the area has to offer.
You’ll need a bike that can make it to the end, it can be a cross bike, a fat bike but you’re most likely going to enjoy it best on a mountain bike.
There’ll be a few ‘Special Tests’ along the way too with a reward for those brave enough, or skilled enough, to complete them.
As with any good ride we'll finish up back at Rockets & Rascals for a cold beer and great tales.
We’ll have a special ‘vintage’ category for mountain bikes pre 1995. These bikes should be as close to their original specification as possible and in the spirit of the event.
It’s going to be a great day out on your bike!
