Having spent 6 odd hours travelling down to the second round of the nationals, with the kids aboard and caravan in tow. And with me taking part in Maddie's Filthy Foxes weekend this weekend, we are staying for the week at Looe Bay. Having a little break, and now it is time for me reflect on my race!

I headed out for a practice on Saturday afternoon, although I kind of knew what was in store from racing the south west series a few weeks back. The curse had been changed slightly tho, so there was some knew bits to get my head around!
The weather gods where on our side and only a blowy breeze to contend with! I skipped out down to brown, I just can't get my head around turning the corner half way down! A challenge for me is to conquer this, when accompanied by my dear husband to guide me through it and to escort me off to hospital if I mess it up!!! The climb up from the toxic pond was very tricky at the start and took some mastering, but I thankfully managed it. (Apart from misjudging it slightly on the first lap)

The next part of the course was the highlight for me! I did it!  At the south west round I just couldn't tell myself I could ride up the clay embankment(which kinda makes you feel like toppling back over yourself). But my fearsome where washed away and I rode it every lap!

The horseshoe bank was another b route for me, with PhIl not been able to come and show me how to do it, on the practice. However, I actually managed to overtake a few elites, (albeit not for long) as they failed to ride it.

Then it was the Shute! Last time I rode it I nearly ended up over the bars! So to ride it every lap without a hiccup this time was also an area of the course I was pleased with.

The roots, twisty woods were taking out, for the nationals, which was the only bit that I can have a mini complaint about! Although it bust my back, it was real fun!
,
4 laps conquered, still with my bike and my bones all intact can't be bad! I'm a bit disappointed that my first lap was 2 minutes slower than the following 3, but I think it's just the way my body is! It takes a while to warm up!

I know I was racing against myself on paper but my aim was to beat the sport riders and try and go as fast as I could, without any mishaps or injuries. I managed to beat the sport riders and get fairly close to the experts.

My first national win! You have to be in it to win it, but I would like a few others to challenge myself against!

Thanks to everybody who helped in any way from the caterers, photographers, marshals, the farmer Nigel and of course everybody who attended, raced, supported and shouted words of encouragement/abuse to me!

Hats off to the Hortons! And looking forward now to my filthy weekend in Newnham Park!

Photos to follow when we return home and Phil's report telling you about his pleasing ride, following a dismal attempt at the Welsh!
