Following a successful partnership in 2014, the Scottish Cross Country Series (SXC), will again host the Scottish Student Sport (SSS) Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships at Cathkin Braes.

The SSS Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships will be hosted as part of the opening round of the 2015 SXC series at Cathkin Braes, Glasgow. On a course which is challenging and thrilling, both experienced and new racers alike will be able to follow in the tyre treads of Commonwealth Games athletes, taking in features such as the Double Dare, Heartbreaker Hill, Propeller Point and the Jouk.

On the 22nd of March, riders from all institutions will be able to contest the Scottish student championships, while remaining in their usual series categories and gathering SXC ranking points.

As well as the competitive Championship categories, riders who are new to the sport can enter into the non-Championship ‘Taster’ category to have a try at mountain biking.

The SSS Championships will be contested in the Elite, Junior and Sport categories for both male and female riders. Competitors should pre-enter online as there will be no Championship entry on the day. Students wishing to contest the SSS Championships will be asked to bring their Student ID card to sign on at the event.

Steve Brown, Scottish Cross Country Series Chairman said, “We are delighted to be hosting the Scottish Student Sport Championships for the second year as part of the SXC race series. It’s especially exciting as the event will be held at the Commonwealth Games course at Cathkin Braes, where just last year we saw some of the best cyclists in the world challenging for medals. We already get large numbers of students who race in the SXC Series, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for them to represent their university and claim some early silverware at Cathkin Braes.”

Euan Smith, Scottish Student Sport said, “We’re delighted that the Scottish Student Sport Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships will once again run in association with Scottish Cross Country Association (SXC). The benefit of partnering with SXC is their professionalism in event delivery and this year’s event is being run within semester time so we’re hoping for an even bigger turnout. Cathkin Braes is a great course for all levels, challenging enough for the very best as seen at the recent Commonwealth Games but still very manageable for those just starting out.”
