With the sun shining and the trees in autumn colour the gods of mountain biking were definitely smiling on everyone involved in Soggy 1 yesterday. And 'everyone' certainly was a lot of you, with impressive turn outs for both morning and afternoon races. I've no idea of the figures, but in it's tenth year the series seems more popular than ever.
It goes without saying that the course was muddy and the ford deep. Martyn and the team really had to ensure they met trade descriptions for a Soggy Bottom!
The South West teams were in fantastic form. Maddie Horton and Dexter Hurlock, racing for Certini, took wins in the elite races. Pete Dawe, of Southfork racing, was second elite racer, particularly noteworthy as apparently he has only missed one Soggy race in ten years - impressive! Southfork riders also completely filled the men's master's podium, with Mike Tomlinson beating team mates Lee Hayward and Martin Crocker to take the win.
Jay Horton, Harry Smith, Harry Forshaw, Kim Long, Lucy Allan and Fin Clay also took podium places for Certini with Nick Butler and Ed Welsh adding to the Southfork trophy cabinet.
Once again a huge 'thank you' to Martyn Salt; the race organisers and race marshals for another great event.
