After a weather induced, false start the previous weekend, Martyn Salt and the Soggy Bottoms team certainly came up trumps for Take 2 of Soggy Bottoms 2. Fairly mild for January and not actually raining would have been a result in itself, blue sky and sunshine was perfect for spectators and photographers.
Course conditions weren't quite so perfect. The going was described by one rider as "like a layer of Nutella over ice".
Whilst parts of the summer, car park more closely resembled the Everglades.
In fact had Maddie and Jay Horton been running the event there would probably have been an inflatable crocodile attached to a tree somewhere near this section of the course.
Mud and swamp avoidance was paramount. So much so, that the resultant varied and creative line choices more than once nearly resulted in a squashed photographer.
All that didn't prevent some neat tricks at the bottom of the splitter. Respect if you got your wheels off the ground where avoiding sliding into the tree was top of most people's agenda!
Once again a big 'thank you' to Martyn and all the race helpers. As always, a great fun and well organised day.
