I can't believe the FullySussed Summer Series is over so soon (probably a sign I'm getting old!).  Five, fun, action packed rounds with so many thrills and spills along the way.  For the official race and series results check out http://www.fullysussed.co.uk/idless-2012, for some totally random, unofficial series facts read on…

First up are the FullySussed courses, all were exciting to watch, challenging to ride and took Maddie and Jay hours to design and prepare.  However, only one could take each of the prestigious course awards:

1.    Scariest course, with most unintentional dismounts per metre, goes to the SW Championship course at Newnham Park.

2.    With the summer we've had, there were several contenders for muddiest course.  However, the Forest of Dean surpassed all others to take this award.

3.    The most coverted award of fun course of the year, as voted for by you (or at least those of you I managed to talk to), goes to United Downs, near Redruth in Cornwall.

Although scientifically derived and totally unbiased (!) the British weather may have had a slight influence on the course results.  United Downs took the sunniest race award.  Idless Woods was narrowly edged out as it started raining just as the last people were leaving.  The wettest race, not just this summer, but in all the history of XC racing went to the Forest of Dean.  No surprises there!

In the category of top rider excuses for not taking gold were bad knees closely followed by bad backs.  On the bike stakes dodgy, intermittently working and mud clogged rear mechs' overtook the normally dominant punctures as the most common problem.

My new favourite category is best wildlife spot of the series.  This one has to go to the wild boars chewing the race marker tape at the Forest of Dean.  Jay voted for 'Oo them badgers'!  However, they don't take the award as unconfirmed reports suggest the strange noises in the night may have been Rob rather than badgers!

The most organised and efficient race assistant award goes to Jane Smith.  Remembering back to the squally, hail showers at Woodbury, Jane also features strongly in the holding down the race registration tent category.

And finally, the one you've all been waiting for, the award for the most fun, charismatic, creative and well, totally cool race organisers in the world could only go to Maddie and Jay Horton.

Very well done to everyone who attended the FullySussed summer series and to those who didn't "man up" and be there next year!
