Sun, sea and singletrack!

It’s a good while since I’ve ridden a “marathon” event - so I’m really pleased that I picked round 3 of the Scott mtb marathon series on Exmoor.  Living in Somerset one might think that this is local for me - but the only place local to Minehead is Minehead, the best parts of world are not on the motorway.  Luckily the Scott team had top - notch route setting advice from ultra-local Rob Barker and put together a superb course.

Wooded singletrack climbs, open moorland bars-touching-the-bracken single track, rocky fast (I mean fast) one and a half track descents, miles (yes miles) of swooping scalectrix foot wide singletrack,  pump pump pump your bike double track climbs, rough singletrack climbs, wet (yes it was a shock) slippy muddy singletrack…… It was awesome!

Some quiet tarmac sections gave you chance to sit down and gain altitude for more fun later.  All the time accompanied with magnificent views, inland across wild exmoor or North over the gleaming blue waters of the Bristol channel to Wales, they’d even fixed the weather with a cooling breeze off the sea and just enough cloud to keep you cool for the race, followed by blue skies and Sun to warm the muscles crashed out at the finish after a proper hot shower at the Rugby club.

Top-notch organisation all round, great venue, excellent signage (never a “is this the right track” moment), super racing, as say round here gert-lush, proper-job!
