This isn’t a race in which I will be competing, which is a shame as the area around Canberra is one of my favourite places. However, it is over 12,000 miles away and a bit of a pain to get to.
The Mont 24hr takes place this weekend, 5-6 April at Kowen Forest, a venue I rode at on my last trip to Australia in 2013 after the 24hr World Championships at Mt Stromlo.
The 2013 Worlds were marred by the death of Kane Vandenberg in crash on the course the day before the race was due to start. He left behind a wife and three sons. As I said in my race report it serves as a stark reminder to us all that there is something far more important than a World Championship at stake every time we ride our bikes.
The reason I mention this now is that Team Romeo Racing will be competing there this weekend in his memory. It looks like it will be terrible weather for them too, almost as bad a British race.
Updates from the team will be on their Facebook page here and you can follow the race over on the Self-Propelled site here. Have a look and show your support.
Good luck guys.
