Turbo training, cliff paths and marmalade

I have just started on a serious training program to get ready for my solo next year, but I have already put in 5 months of pre-training.  I could blame it on having children, but that has to be one of the biggest false excuses out there - basically I was overweight, not fat, just not very 'sleek' (- I make great scones, good heavy meals and enjoy a glass or three of wine).  I have lost a stone through exercise and healthy eating, lowered my BMI and fat levels considerably and feel like I can now start training without damaging my knees and joints.  You cannot undertake such a physical challenge without scrutinizing what fuel you put in.

Throughout the winter, my goal is to train 5 days out of 7.  I rest every Sunday without fail as this is family time.  My other rest day will be when I feel like I need a break, there is no point in getting an injury now!  I am mainly turbo training, but enjoy running too as we live close to the beach and cliff path which is the most amazing rugged scenery.  I would bike it, but you can get a lot done in an hour or so of running and I do enjoy it.  And I'm scared I'll end up at the bottom of the cliff!

This week has been great, on Monday I ran to collect the children from school with my little one in the buggy (three and a half miles up and down steep hills - Millie loves it!), then I did the Carmichael 'Train-Right' Mountain biking DVD that evening after kiddies bedtime.
Tuesday 8-9pm -  DVD
Wednesday 9-10pm  - DVD - Listening to 'good job' over and over again is an endurance in itself!
Thursday - Today I am resting and catching up on work.
Tomorrow (Friday) will be DVD
Saturday will be hopefully a run (7-10 miles off road) but it all depends on the weather.

It has been so tempting to snuggle down in the living room with a book instead of mounting my trainer, especially with the weather being so bad this week, but as it is a DVD you just put it on and do as you are told and before you know it there is a pool of sweat on the floor and the hours over - easy!  And I managed to make great marmalade, dug up Dock roots from the vegetable garden, help Freya with her homework, clean up cat poo (proper runny messy one too) from Millies dressing up clothes and deal with an apology letter from Isaac as he was fighting at school (6 year old playground brawl over 'bumpies', not Union Street in Plymouth at 2am sort of thing!).  I am coping well I think, for this week any way.

I have to say though, my list of what to get sorted before the big day is growing.  I currently have a hardtail Trek  which my amazing hubby bought for me for my 30th, but my backside is not very happy from just doing the turbo on it this week, so a full sus will have to be found from somewhere.  I used to have a Santa cruz Julianna - now THAT is an awesome bike!  I'll have to ask my boss for a raise!
