Two good weeks of riding.

I totalled thirteen hours of riding last week and eighteen this week. For the meantime my weeks' training still mainly consists of the longer rides. Monday is always rest, Tuesday is weights and a recovery spin on turbo, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays (if all goes well) are when I complete my long rides and Friday is either rest or a recovery spin. Still only minimal interval efforts, just a few 20 minute efforts aiming to hold 85 to 89 percent of my maximum heart rate. I feel good at the moment, just don't ask me to sprint yet.

This and last weekend have been brilliant on the mountain bike. I've been trying out my new Anthem X and taking full advantage of the dry, solid trails both locally and at Afan Argoed last weekend. It may not be hot here but when the trails are as hard from the cold and fast as they have been it may as well be summer and south Wales has some fantastic places to enjoy riding. I get a real satisfaction from blasting round the trails, no slogging through mud and feeling the grit getting in to the bearings, it has been a real treat.

We had a four and a five hour ride this weekend, and in one weekend we road as many of our favourite local trails that our legs could take us to - up and down the Garth, Machen Mountain, a loop of Cwmcarn, and the adjoining woodlands it was a huge amount of fun.
