Just back from pre-riding the course today in freezing conditions and thought I would bring a quick update to you all for all you "what tyre" fiends :-)
I didn't ride the southern xc round a couple of weeks ago so can't bring a direct comparison, however this version of the course is riding super fast with some nice loose sketchy corners to focus the mind, although options to drink may be a little limited with some riders thinking camelback. Expect laptimes to be around 18mins for the fastest elites. The course flows really well and there will be real benefit from carrying speed through some of the tighter turns which in my opinion means that a front tyre with a bit of bite on the edges. The bontrager xdx fits the bill nicely on the 29er as proved in the sprint relay today!
The team relay was the usual frenetic activity with our lead out man Lee Williams receiving some tough treatment on the first lap from Orange Monkey, Ben Roff. Once the handover was complete to Tracy Moseley the lead was extended and Phil Morris was left with an armchair ride to the finish. I think we need to move Phil further forward in the running order to get him some real racing!
Any budding teams should see Martyn tomorrow and get entries in for Margam to create some really spectacular short track racing.
See you tomorrow, in the balmy dry and windless conditions that bbc are predicting.....
