We have been planning and building the course at Wilmington School for over one year for the championships, cutting and building trails through the wooded sections on the school grounds. With the dry weather we have had over the  last few weeks as made the ground like riding on concrete in the open sections, this was to make it very fast indeed.

Conner Smith from Etching Hill C E School - 1st place under 8's boys category

The under eights was going to be the first race of the day with the boys of first followed by the girls a minute later. The under eights and tens where going to use the top half of the grounds which entailed several wooded sections of fast flowing single track then on to the playing field back to the start finish area. The under eight boy's race was a close fought affair with Conner smith of Ecthing Hill C of E school taking the win from Ben Askey and closely followed Mathew Baptista in third. It was Piper Radford of Wyndale primary who was to come in first for the girls with Anna Wadsworth chasing at her heels, then Charlotte McGreevy. By now the midday sun was pounding down when the under tens where about to go. This was not going to stop Ben Tulett from destroying the rest of the field. Ben romped home to win, with a big gap back to second Nathan Martin and third Aaron Freeman.

Kim Baptista was going to improve on her brother's podium position by grabbing first place. Followed by a strong ride from Gemma Heath which was to get her second place, and Ava Oxley-Szilagyi taking the third spot.

The course for the under twelve's was to drop down to the lower section of the school which meant they would entail three climbs which would test them in the heat of the day. Daniel Tulett was going to do the same thing to the under twelve boys which was to romp home to a solo victory. Second and third was a close fought battle between Jack Lutz and Harry Yates of which Jack kept it to the line to take second. Sophie Capwell of Nether Stowe High school kept a steady pace threw out her race to win with style. Emily Wadsworth was not far behind Sophie but could not close the gap to  her. Third place went to Amy Selibas of Kingsbury Science & Maths Collage.
The under fourteens where to use the under twelve sections and the banked woods they would not use Pauls Plummet, which was a banked drop off. They would have to use the chicken run instead which was safer route to the bottom of the hill.  Tom Franklin of Ravensbourne School was to gain a gap over second and third riders in which he kept to the finish. Second and third were neck to neck to the line, which ended with the sprint going to Oliver Lowthorpe and Calum Anderton in third.

Amy Smith of Cardinal Newman Catholic School rode steady pace to pull away from the other girls to take the win. Emily Capwell was in second spot until the last lap when she was caught and overtaken by Holly MacMahon of Maidstone Grammar.

By the time the under and over sixteen's race was about to start it was the hottest part of the day. The course now consisted  of Pauls Plummet or you had the use the chicken run which would put twenty seconds longer on to your time. This was to be one of the most contested of all the races of the day. The first three riders where together for the two laps then on lap three Harry Franklin and Samuel Stean got a gap on the over sixteen rider Jack Finch, which they maintained until the finish. On the final climb up from the woods the two riders where together once over the climb the sprint began which Harry maintained to line to take the win. Next pass the post was Jack Finch who was win  in the over sixteen's. Thirty seconds back was Thomas Butler of Dover Grammar in third. The Girls started one minute behind the boy's race with Gretel Warner of Wilmington Grammar for girls  straight into the single track first followed by the rest of the girls. By the end of lap one she was twenty seconds in front of Charlotte Turner in second. By the end of lap four Gretel was making her way through the boy's field. She was to gain a massive gap over her fellow competitors which they never closed. Charlotte was to take second with a consistent ride, but third placed Paige Coope was over taken on the last lap by Sophia Joy to take third spot. Just a few words to say on behalf of Team Darenth thank you for coming along to our event, I hoped you enjoyed your selves.  It was great to see some great racing on such a fine day what else could ask for. Just quick thank you to Kent Relliance Building society for sponsoring the event. Also  BC, KCC Wilmington Schools for the use of the grounds and all the Mums and Dads and helpers who made it happen.
