SMBC the team behind the Southern XC Series and two previous very successful Cross Country National Championships at Crow Hill in 2008 and Pippingford in 2010 are once again proud to bring you the 2012 XC Championship at another one of our courses - 21ST - 22ND JULY 2012.

Wasing Park now in its third year and already host to two Southern XC rounds one incorporating the Southern Championships in 2011 and two very successful rounds of the British Mountainbike Series. Now firmly established in the cross country mountainbike race scene it is to host the pinnacle of UK racing, the Cross Country National Championship. It is the year of the 2012 London Olympics and mountainbiking is expected to become even more popular, interest in racing is set to grow. Being so close to London our stars may be racing on British soil for the last time before their preparations begin for the big day at Hadleigh Farm, its a chance to race them for our Senior riders and all other younger and older riders to race for their own medals and jerseys and get to watch the main race.  Who will be crowned the National Champions in the weeks leading up to the Games, will it be one of our Olympic hopefuls, be there to find out as they cross the finish line and cheer them on, for Great Britain.

The hills might be short and not particularly steep but it's a fast course and the relentless pedalling is tough work but the rewards are good, lots of fast flowing singletrack. In the dry it is very fast and exciting with close wheel to wheel racing and as proved in last years BMBS it can be regarded as an all weather course. The heavens opened all day but still the course was all rideable, there were two sections which proved a bit tough and had many walking but the strongest riders managed to stay on the bike. We will of course keep an eye on the weather and if it looks anything like a repeat of those conditions we will have alternative route options. We will also be adding some new surprises over winter and will try to include every natural technical feature we can find deep in the woods. The big sandy drop is starting to look tame now and maybe a new scarier drop in can be found!

It is a great venue with good camping and road links situated close to the M4 and A34 junction. There are lots of options for hotels and B&B's locally and plenty of restaurants a short drive away, one in walking distance. There are support races on the Saturday for those who don't feel ready for top level competition or don't have a race licence, friends and family along to support racers may fancy having a go too on a Championship course. For anyone wanting to get an early preview of the National Championship course they can enter the Southern XC Round 3 on 13th May which is also the Southern Regional Championship.

We have a dedicated website which will have all the event information you should need.
