The Gisburn Dirty Dozen takes place on Saturday June 11th, 2011. It's a 12 hour mountain bike event which starts at 7.30am Saturday morning and concludes at 7.30pm the same day. It takes place in Gisburn Forest, Bowland, Lancashire which has recently undergone some serious renovation, resulting in an awesome network of single tracks through the pines and when coupled with the fast logging roads, Gisburn is one of the few remaining places yet to be discovered by the majority of the MTB world.

What is the format for the race?

The course loop is a mixture of fast trails and technical riding, each starting and finishing at the start / finish marquee which is situated at the forest edge. The event is open to solo riders, pairs and teams of 3, for pairs and teams each rider can complete as many laps as they wish but handovers can only take place within the 'pits lane' which is situated close to the start / finish marquee. The course will be well marked and marshalled at necessary points but riders should be aware that the forest is open to other users and should always take care when racing.

What is the format for the weekend?

Registration is open from Friday 7.30pm in the village hall and camping is available if required. When you enter the event you must highlight is you require camping for Friday and Saturday evenings to ensure that we reserve you a place. Registration will also be open from 5.30-6.30am on Saturday morning but please try to register the evening before to ensure that you do not miss the start! The event starts at 7.30am with a 0.5 miles run to reach your bikes and separate the riders.. from there it's down to you! Each time you complete a lap you must ride through the start / finish marquee and electronic timing will be used to count each lap and record your split times, upon completion of each lap you can 'tag' your partner or team mate and they will then complete the next lap, solo competitors just keep going!

What do I need to do before the day?

Ensure you bike is in a roadworthy condition for the route, brakes are particularly important on the descents! Bring tools, spares and repairs just in case you have mechanical difficulties. You must wear a hard shell cycling helmet (ANSI standard or similar) whilst riding and the minimum age for competitors is 16 for teams and pairs, 18 for the solo category. Experience of mountainbiking events and endurance riding would be a key benefit before the day!
