SMBC are pleased to announce the dates and venues for the 2011 PedalOn.co.uk Southern XC Series.
The series sees the return of two classic venues thought to be lost in the mist of time. With two fairly new SMBC built courses from the last 2 years that are already becoming firm favourites. That leaves Crow Hill another resurrected old favourite not to be missed, so uniquely we have a top class series of venues where all courses have held National level races at some time in their history.
The series kicks off at a classic venue in the Chiltern Hills that we lost the full use of a few years ago. Checkendon was host to many National points races, SAMS and Southern XC's since the early nineties. A firm favourite that has been missed but we have a new large arena giving us direct access to the woods and some great new options on course layout. Fast flowing singletrack is what Checkendon is all about as riders of the Rampage series have still enjoyed these last few years. We have added some distance to the lap now and a sting in the tail, those Rampage regulars will need to get their climbing legs on.
Then we move a little way south to our new venue from last year at Wasing Estate, this tough fast new course is well regarded already with successful Southern and BMBS rounds. This year it will also be on the new Regional Championship weekend so a chance to become Southern Champion.
Round 3 moves to the New Forest at one of our favourite venues Crow Hill, host to the BMBS in 2008 and the classic Dorset Rough Rider events of the mid nineties. Crow is another fast fun course with lots of short sharp hills that allow little time for recovery.
Then by popular demand we are back at Erlestoke, nearly lost forever due to motorbikes riding the trails. Sensibly the land agents have realised that problem is unlikely to go away by cancelling the mountain bike race races so we are back again. The last two Southerns were the best ever at this deceptively tough old school course with some big climbs and scary descents.
For the final we return to Pippingford where Liam was crowned National XC Champion last year. This stunning venue with the amazing course, super flowing downhills, lakeside trails, great singletrack and killer climbs. This course has a bit of everything for everyone but to win you need to be the strongest all rounder.
