The inaugural Black Park off road Duathlon was held in fine autumnal weather which made for fast trails for the cycle section and solid footing for the run. The event sponsored by the Sweat Shop Windsor and Beyond Mountain Bikes with assistance from 2XU attracted close to 100 competitors and the competition was close.

Barry Stuart  - Open Male Winner

Leading after the first run was Jez Cox (Bike and Run London) he was in out of the transition area quickly and out onto the bike route, before the second placed runner had completed their 2 laps of the 1.5 mile circuit. Coming in the transition area in the top ten was Karl Norfolk and once out on the bike he started eating into the lead of Cox. Another competitor who was also mastering the ride route and putting in some impressive times was Barry Stewart (Kent RC) and he was to overhaul Cox as they entered the last lap of the ride route with Norfolk also blasting past.

A little further back Jay Horton (Team Certini) was showing no ill effects from his previous nights, Knobbly Tyres Night Race and was building up a good lead in the veterans' class.

Meanwhile, Maddie Horton was looking like she was going to make it a double victory for the clan as she was leading the Open Female category. Into the final run and Stewart was still going well and although Cox managed to overhaul Norfolk to take second, Stewart was a comfortable winner.

Maddie Horton as expected kept up her relentless pace and came out a clear winner in the Open Females class with Kate Robson and Fay Cripps 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In the competitive Pairs events it was a clean sweep for the promoting West Drayton MBC/RRP/Specialized Beyond riders as Anne Porter and Karen Sawkins took top honours in the Ladies event, Martin Turton and Becky Turton won the Mixed Pairs and Henry Whipet Howe and Sam Hill took the Men's Pairs.

All in all another great event by long-term promoters WDMBC who would like to thanks Bucks county council for their assistance in running the event. The full results are here>>
