This Sunday sees Round 3 of the Welsh MTB Series at the classic Welsh venue of Coed y Brenin.

Course Preview:

Based around the Tarw trail and the Old Visitor Centre area, the course will be physically and technically challenging for the riders. Starting on the Tarw trail, riders will face a long fireroad climb to the top of the course. This is going to be a tough start so riders will want to be well warmed up! Once the course turns down the hill there is a broken forest road to start the descent-fast but on a loose surface riders will have to be careful here.

The Old RedBull Route

Next it's into the start of "Pins and Needles"-a flowing rocky section of the Tarw trail-before turning onto the old Red Bull route and the first of the technical challenges. The rest of the Red Bull trail almost looks natural now as it flows through the trees heading back down to cross the road. Once across the road, another short section of singletrack brings you on to the top of the pump track descent-riders who are in contention will want to keep the wheels on the ground but no doubt there will be a few showboating, especially if there are spectators to impress!

The Rock Drop Off

A left turn at the bottom takes riders onto a short climb on doubletrack before the next technical feature-a steep bank where riders have the choice to take the direct route over a rock drop or the gentler but longer route, both leading into a short steep climb back up the bank. From here, it's a short pedal to the next descent, across a few rocks-again, riders will need to choose their line-before popping out into the finish arena for the first time. A short rooty, cambered climb leads into a fast descent back into the finish and the start of another lap.

Directions:

Coed y Brenin is on the A470, just north of Dolgellau. The old visitor centre is on the Western side of the road and the new visitor centre is on the Eastern side. Nearest postcode is LL40 2HY.

Important Parking Information:

Unfortunately whichever way we look at it, there is not enough space for parking at the Old Visitor Centre (OVC) so we have taken the decision to park all Junior and Senior competitors at the New Visitor Centre (NVC). We have secured use of the overflow car park at the NVC so that competitors will not have to pay to park and everybody from the race will be in one place. Please do not park in the normal visitor centre car park as it will be busy and you will have to pay.

It is a 5-10min ride or a 15-20min walk to the course from the Overflow Car Park. The route will be signposted and marshals in the car park will be able to point you in the right direction. If you follow the signposted route, you will go underneath the A470 using the subway. Please note, this is a two-way track so please take care.

Registration will be at the OVC. There are also Toilets and refreshments at the OVC.

There will be a sheltered area next to the registration tents at the OVC where riders can leave a bag, spare clothing, drinks and so on.
We realise that the parking situation is not ideal and we have looked at every other alternative but this is the best possible solution for the venue.
