Welsh Series Round up

Well I must start by saying that the Welsh cyclocross series is go from strength to strength each year by the fantastic assistance if LIz Slater who puts endless hours, hardworking and dedication to the sport as well as taking all the flack and tittle tattle after the races. So a huge Thankyou to Liz, the commissaries, volunteers and the clubs who help out on each round. 2014 was my second year of racing cyclocross and I can honestly say I still can't get my head around it, every race throws up different results, horses for courses as they say. But what is evident for me is that my mountain biking love and the technical courses is where I am at my best. I might as well be let for dust on the flat, power courses!!

Anyway here's a few of my ups and downs:
My favourite course is pretty close between Newtown and Manuel Lacey but Newtown just edges into Ist place. Newtown I took the win ahead of my closest rival Clare Hoskins who is very handy on the non technical courses. It was a real mix half roadie half technical but the technical bits where downhill through the woods and enjoyable for me. Manuel Lacey I took second place behind the flying Ruby Miller. She is going to be dark horse this year I feel, under the training guide!!

The first round at llantarnam I always enjoy, although flat there is a good mix of technical, but very difficult to overtake through then singletrack. It was a kick up the backside and flagged up that Meg Backstedt was no slacker! Plenty of training and getting fit was evident.

I hated Ammanford, I needed a horse round there!! Flat, non technical apart from a tiny drop off and a little lip of a hill which many where running over!! I managed to ride it every time but it didn't give me any advantage! I did disastrous there and had my worst race of the season.

I missed out a few through working etc Pembrey, Carmarthen.

I enjoyed gilwern this year but last years course suited my abilities more as they took out the two more technical sections of it.

The last round of the season at Caerphilly mountain was horrendously muddy, but I enjoyed it all the same, just a shame I got caught up and trapped behind a pile up and my rival got away!
And I should have ridden my bike from word go, not 4 laps in!

The Champs at Builth went ok, but it need to enhance my bike knowledge and tyre Inflations!! As after a good start, I went down hill quickly when I was loosing all grip and loosing momentum as well a a several places. Never mind I was pleased to have competed. And with a very strong field I was just happy not to be last.

Finally though I can conclude that after some very close racing that one point separated me and second place, I just clinched the win for the women's welsh cyclocross series. Yippee, second year in a row, although next year may be ad challenge unless I find some magic into getting out on my bike more!! And training more! But no doubt I will be trying and will be doing the cross race that I can fit in.

Many thanks to everyone who has supported me in anyway throughout the year, from watching the kids to cheering me on and especially to XCracer.com/scimitar for all there ongoing support throughout 2014.

On was now to 2015, where I will be dabbling in a few different events I feel and with the changes in categories etc I may have to juggle and do different cargo rise to allow us to go racing as a family!

Thankyou to simply natural for some of the photos used.

Happy Healthy New Year To You All and All the best for 2015
