Today mummy and birthday girl raced at black park. An area we have never been to before, but this year phil decided to enter he emergency services championship which is tomorrow. With kiddies in tow, and the open races running alongside the emergency race tomorrow I had to opt and ride the fun short race today. We stayed Friday night in a travelodge and headed to black park about eleven. The event atmosphere was nice and relaxed and having arrived nice and early Hali-Rae had plenty of time to ride the route. She had two ten minute races on different circuits. It was lovely to see her actually ride and race her bike properly!! She even got lots of praise of daddy!! Trust me that takes some doing!! She raced her heart out and rode all the tricky sections to come a well deserved second place. Loving getting on the podium on her birthday!  Happy birthday flossie!! Then it was mummy's turn.

A unusually race for me, as although I have only been riding/racing me bike for the past 16months I would have normally entered a more competitive race, but with no other racing options it had to make do. I felt extremely nervous, the pressure was on! I lined up with six other adults, three women and three men. The horn went and off I shot, first into the singletrack. The course  very twisty, as flat as a pancake and little opportunity to overtake. We set off behind the under 16's, it wasn't long and I was catching them and was having to que through the singletrack. One male managed to get by me,  then I just tried to stay as close as possible to him, but the inevitable happened and I kept getting stuck behind riders and could only get passed on a few areas. I crossed the lined after about half an hour in first place and second overall.

All I can say is that although it was short it was very intense, similar to a cyclocross race. A short, sharp circuit.

Well done to everyone involved in putting the supporting races on. Now to look forward to watching daddy tomorrow, ride himself into an early grave. He has the beginnings of a chesty cough, which after tomorrow if he even manages to complete, he will be paying a price for it!!
