UPDATE - Cateye are providing 15 sets of lights on free loan for the race.  No excuse now!

So things are really coming together for our very first night race. We have even discovered that the course has it's very own ghost - a group of four nuns are regularly seen on the main straight track locally known as Nun's Path - there's even a reference on the official Paranormal Database http://www.paranormaldatabase.com/oxfordshire/oxfodata.php

The course will run in the same direction as Round 2, which everyone seems to prefer. The finish and timing area will run through the marquee with another marquee next to it for spectators. With music and Halloween decorations this should make a great atmosphere. Same categories and numbers of laps as usual although race times will be considerably longer in the dark. The course is pretty much fully taped so no chance of getting lost! Main race at 8pm and we hope to get to the pub round the corner by 10pm!

The course has some trees down after the storm but they won't take long to clear.  Conditions are still hard in the woods with only a few puddles to avoid and the field edges are firm underfoot.  The course will be fully blown for the race. The parking field is solid and should be fine.

All of SMBC will be in Halloween costume and we will have prizes for the best dressed rider and best dressed spectator. Usual coffee and tea will be available with hot chocolate as an extra. Cakes will be Halloween themed and if you've never tried Pumpkin Pie now's your chance. We might even have some fireworks for those afraid to miss out on a fireworks display.

We are also introducing a special podium for the first three cyclocross bikes with trophies. The Knog Muddy Hell night cyclocross race before has been cancelled this year and we'd like to encourage them to come. If you want to see the sort of thing we're trying to get to check out videos and pictures at http://www.muddyhell.cx/

As well as the podiums for the Night Race we'll also have podiums with engraved trophies for the Series Winners. If you're a winner make sure you are there!

Ace photographers Sports-Alive and Kevin Sheldrake will be there taking photos again. They've provided some amazing memories of the series races - thanks guys!

We'd also like to get some marshals out on the course (because it's dark!) and if you'd like to volunteer we can help out with beer! Just get in touch by the usual means...

Pre-entry closes midnight on Friday 1st November so you can check the weather at the last minute ;)

We are getting excited - are you?
