Mid-week racing proves a big hit in Builth Wells!!
Wednesday night saw the first of the new summer series set up and run by Cycle Tec ( Builth Wells) take place. There was a fantastic turnout with I believe over 60 riders taking part. Ages ranged from 3 to probably about 60 odd!! With the idea of getting people into racing or to have a go, the evening was fairly relaxed and it was evident that there was mixed abilities lined up on the start line. Not the usual 15 seconds and then the gun, but plenty of hang on let me get my phone out etc, so pretty laid back and not too intimidating to the non-racing riders.
The course was super, although made mighty tricky by the
rain and the weather for the evening was pretty damp and a tad windy too! It
weaved in and out and around the parking stages and went off into the woods and
down some gloopy single-track and over some pallets. There was a little bit of a
rock garden on one descent and there was also a tricky off camber descent about
half way around the course and off course the final big climb up the road to
complete the lap. The race was based on laps, women did 4 men 6, although if
lapped then you finished on that lap.
4 Women lined up, we all went off together and it was fast and furious battle to the top f the climb, then a little que formed going into the single-track into the woods, but overall there wasn't no major hold ups. The course I really enjoyed plenty of climbing and a mix of terrain, no real technical bits, apart from the weather making the course and some sections very slippy and tricky. There was no real let up on the course so it was a case of push, push, push. I came over the line in a knackered first place, it was a toughie, a bit harder than a cyclocross, but very similar in some ways and slightly shorter.
Results and photos are on the cycle- Tec Facebook page if
anybody wants to have a peek and hopefully get the bug to come and have a go at
the next round in 4 weeks' time. Details and venue to be found on cycle Tec
Facebook page also.
I will definitely be going to the future races so hopefully
see you there. Races for the kiddies, tasty welsh black burgers and hot drinks
for sale and a nice little podium presentation at the end. In addition you get
timed racing and photos courtesy of Roy Bevis.
Thank you to the organisers Gareth and Dave and all there little pixie helpers!! And my sincere thanks to Roy for the pic's!
Only thing missing was my hubby!! Bit gutting he can't make
the series as he works Wednesday evenings!! Never mind though plenty of racing
do be done and this Sunday we will heading off to Woodbury Common, near Exeter
at 6 in the morning to take part in the final of the fully sussed south west
series, with the Horton's!!!
