He did it! Well over 400 miles and 22000m of climbing, off road, the length of Wales twice in a weekend!

Dave arrived in Cardiff Bay on Sunday night, rode up to his supporters no-handed, jumped off his bike, delivered a speech and opened a bottle of champagne.

He's going to reach his sponsorship target but I think this deserves much more so please follow the links at the bottom of this blog and show your support.

If you've read my last blog entry you'll know I had a tough but successful race last weekend and I don't mind admitting to feeling pretty good about myself this week.

However, my ride of 24 hours and 30 seconds is this week being put well and truly in the shade by my good friend Dave Buchanan who is aiming to ride for more than DOUBLE that time.

Dave was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2003 for which he underwent chemotherapy and after some hairy moments recovered to continue mountain biking and has been one of the UKs chief 24 hour and endurance athletes ever since, frequently raising money for CLIC Sargent along the way.

In 2009 Dave rode from North to South Wales off-road as part of the 7 deadly spins project, charting the route and setting the first record in the process. Others have gone on to better his time but Dave already had his sights set on bigger things - riding there and back again!

He set off from Cardiff on Friday morning, arrived at Caernarfon Saturday morning and is currently making his way back South, somewhere around Machynlleth as I write. I can only partly imagine the pain he must be going through right now but I know he's incredibly determined and has been thoroughly focussed on this challenge for over a year, dipping heavily into his own finances to fund it.

Dave's target is to reach Cardiff Bay Sunday morning and if he does this after 48 or more hours of riding it will constitute a new Guinness World Record. If he makes it in less than 48 he'll turn round and go back again ;0)

But ultimately, if you want to see Dave succeed and give him some motivation, go to his donation page and help him reach his target of £2500.
