A new season, and for me, some new sponsors-Blew Tree Media and Stolen Goat. The first event for of the season, like usual, was the first round of the MTB Marathon series in Builth wells. Excited by the brand new Stolen Goat kit and new Scott Spark the weekend was always going to be a good one. The rolling hills of Builth are never a let down and would test me well; because of boring things like GCSEs I am having to take a much more conserved approach to my training and racing meaning a more relaxed out look.
The first climb of the Marathon was a killer. Very steep and very long. After a while I found my rhythm and found myself with Matt Hart (Torq) and rode the majority of the ride together. Amazing descents accompanied by brilliant views was what was expected and I was not let down- the bigger bouncer Scott Spark made light work of the downhills and felt no different to a hardtale on the ups... However the last climb just about finished me (the quarry) relentless and hard I was on fumes and lack of training showed! At last the final descent in to the event ground came and I was glad and surprised to be third back in the 50K distance. I'm looking foreword to a full season of racing under the new sponsors but would like to say a massive thank you to Southfork Racing for the previous years of support.
