After a break of 3 years, the British Cycling National XC series will return to Newnham Park, Plymouth in 2015.
In 2011, fledgling event organisers Fully Sussed designed the course for the Nationals, bringing you exciting new tracks and giving them scary names – cue: The Bear Pit. The 2011 course provided excitement for the riders, and a great atmosphere for the spectators. Their calls for blood could be heard for miles around.
Over the last 3 years we have been busy in the park sculpting new tracks and improving old ones and we’ll be ready for when the Nationals come to town again. Local riders will be treated to sneak previews of some new tracks during the
Soggy Bottom XC Series, but even they won’t have seen the entire loop before race weekend.
We’re providing a weekend of racing, kicking off with the Moonlit Soggy Bottom XC on Friday 17th April.
Moonlit Soggy Bottom XC
The format will be simple; one mass start with racing over 4 laps of a 5km(ish) course. Starting at 7.30pm riders will start in twighlight, and finish in the dark. The course will include some sections of the National XC loop but will replace the very technical sections with tracks more suited to night riding.
This event will be capped at 150 competitors, so to guarantee your place you’ll need to
pre-enter.
National XC
On Saturday and Sunday (18-19th April) the National XC events take place, and this year it is a UCI category 1 race, which will attract the best British talent as well as top International riders.
There’s a category for everyone though, with races for Sport, Open, Fun and Under 12s on Saturday, and Elite, Expert and age group categories on Sunday.
There will be
free camping for competitors and their families from Friday – Sunday, and
great local caterers on site all weekend.
