Saturdays Exposure Night of the Knobbly Tread race promoted by the West Drayton MBC at Black Park benefited from a mild autumnal night and with the course in superb condition due to the recent weather the organisers were hoping for close fast racing and they were not to be disappointed.

The nights racing started off with the fun categories and in the men's race the laps times by the top two Marcin Kunecki riding for the host club WDMBC/Specialized Ruislip and Marco Jardim riding for Demo CCL who were glued together for the first 2 laps were lapping in times a lot of open riders would have been proud of , at the end of the 9 mile event around the mainly twisty single track course Jardim pulled away to take victory with Kunecki in 2nd whilst the 3rd place position went down to the wire, Tom Wright EDF Velopro beating come back man Craig Sampson riding his first event for 8 years by a solitary second after just over 50 mins of racing. In the fun ladies it looked like there was going to be another close battle as on the 1st lap ,1 second separated leader Gosia McPherson WDMBC/Specialized Ruislip and Elizabeth Ruffley but with Ruffley having lighting issues and struggling to see in the wooded sections McPherson went on to claim a clear victory and had the added bonus of being the first veteran home for a double win, Sue Tebbs WDMBC/Specialized Ruislip who had been in 3rd also took advantage of Ruffleys misfortune and overhauled her to take second and had the bonus of being first grand vet for another prize with Ruffley carrying on despite her problems to take 3rd

If the racing had been fast before, the open men's race raised the bar even further with the top three riders, Elite rider Simon Ernest Renvale/Cannondale , Paul Miller and Sam Edwards both winners of rounds in the Southern Series this year battling it out and constantly changing places at the head of the field as they distanced themselves from the rest of the bunch, at the end of the 5 lap race it was Ernest by a whisker with the WDMBC/Specialized Ruislip pair Miller and Edwards 2nd and 3rd respectively with last years fun winner Chris Try 4th just ahead of David Bone. In the vets race Matt Craner Beyond MTB a regular competitor at Black Park just had the beating of Sean Scott from the promoting club as he took victory by 3 seconds with Neil Cooper just slightly off the pace of the leading pair in 3rd. In the grand veterans it was a WDMBC/Specialized Ruislip clean sweep with Simon Slater taking his first victory of the year as he left team mates Clive Evans and Richard Nash to take the minor placings. In the women's open event the numerical advantage and local knowledge of the West Drayton pair Charlotte Cumming were not enough to overcome Fay Cripps Southdown Velo's fitness as she gradually pulled away each lap to take the win with Cummings 2nd and Ambrose 3rd Thanks to the generosity of the event sponsors Exposure lights sponsoring the event for the 5th year running and the Specialized Concept Store all the prize winners were well rewarded with champagne and trophies being presented on the podium in addition to the goodies provided by the sponsors.

All in all a great nights racing on the new race circuit which all the regulars reckoned was the best yet at this popular venue.
