Urban DIY trail builders and mountain bike club MBSwindon are back with the 2013 Prospect Hospice Big Ride. This charity fund-raiser offers three off road cross country routes using some of the best parts of the Marlborough Downs in Wiltshire including a lap of the club's Croft Trail in Swindon. There are 24km, 40km and 50km options.
The event is run in conjunction with the Prospect Hospice who provide care for cancer sufferers in the region. They need to raise £3.6 million pounds per year to cover their costs.
The 2012 event received a lot of positive feedback for the more technically challenging routes compared with previous years. Tom from MBSwindon said “we wanted a proper MTB ride for a charity fundraiser rather than a charity event with some bikes tacked on. We only had one complaint last year and that was about a section through some trees being too tight. We thought that was one of the best parts.”
“As with all the events in 2012 we had a lot of mud. The famous ladder lane descent was carnage with those conditions. I fell off there myself and it looked a bit like Mountain Mayhem. We're sure that everyone will come back for more this year. It might also stop raining in 2013.”
Club volunteers are marshalling the event which will also have two food stops, first aid cover and rescue vehicles.
The event takes place on Sunday 28th of April 2013 starting from the Nationwide sports pavilion in the Croft woods off Piper's Way in Swindon. SN3 1TX.
Online entry costs £15 and the Hospice are asking riders to raise sponsorship or make a donation: www.prospect-hospice.net/bigbikeride
