A record turnout for the first round of the 2014 XC Rampage with 153 riders enjoying the perfect conditions at Checkendon. The extended course pushed lap times up and the new sections were well received.

Current Southern Region Champion, Jody Crawforth won the Elite Male race. Battling with Expert Phillip Pearce for the first three laps, Jody pulled away after Phillip punctured to win by 2m 19s from Simon Ernest and Scott Chappell.

Maddie Horton visited from Devon to take the Elite Female race in style with lap times rivalling many Expert men.

Michael Guilford took advantage of Phil's puncture to beat his big rival for only the third time this year. Ruby Chappell won the Expert Female race.

The Master Male race provided the best finish of the day with Jamie Newall, Paul Lloyd and Simon Allard riding as one for the whole race and fighting out a three way sprint for the line.

Daran Blackwell narrowly beat Jason Emery in the Vet race, while Rob Jackson continued his dominance of the Grand Vets. Morgan Jones returned to take the Sport race again.

The women's races were dominated by the Dame Cycling team with Kelli Salone winning the Vet race and Marcia Ellis and Alicia Hockin taking the Sport race.

Bike of the race goes to Mark Edwards of Hillingdon Triathletes racing the Sport race on a Fat Bike. Must be catching on after George Budd's ride at the last National!
