This last weekend saw a whole weekend of racing across the country, but being on our doorstep we headed to our local race, at the Royal Wels Showground, Builth Wells. Both me and phil were racing at eleven so Nannie came along for kiddie duty.

The course was a very punchy, sharp, short climbs, singletrack and it was a very short lap. I never seem to have a good race here, I don't think the laps are quite long enough and I always seem to get caught in traffic on the first lap, stuck behind people with the ability to out power me but not as good technically.

The Welsh have a funny system of setting us women apart from the elite all together at the back of all the juvenile boys and girls and all the sport men. This isn't good when it comes to bottlenecks at the first bit of singletrack. I got stuck along with others on the first section, which was frustrating as a few got on past, then having lost all my energy on getting through, a few women passed me on the following climb, which wasn't helpful in getting down the singletrack freely.

As far as the first couple of laps went the leading sport rider heulwen, her first mtb race(however she is a super fit 19year old who is also an a class runner!!) was just up in front, I couldn't quite get to her on the climbs and then one thing after another was going wrong on points where I was gaining! First a crash just in front of me, causing me loose vital time and then my chain jamming on a few occasions. Nothing serious but enough to stop my momentum!

My four laps where completed in under 55 minutes, so a very short race, not playing to my advantage. Never The less I crossed the line second place sport rider, third non elite woman overall, just behind welcomed speedy newcomer Heulwen and Sarah Barnwell who is my partner in crime for cat and mouse at most races!

The weather was fantastic and it was great to see so many spectators and also fellow competitors supporting the cycle tec round at Builth Wells.

Big thanks to Cycle Tec also for fixing my forks very last minute, after realising that they had taken a bashing after my crash at Newnham! A class service!

The course played havoc with my back, back to the ibuprofen flat out now! And nothing like re cooperating after the race I headed off to my night shift! 10am Monday morning I hit the sack!

On to Phil's race, he went off just before me, unfortunately for him he had a few technical issues which was a shame because he reports feeling strong.

Firstly the start, elite women off just infront of him, when a few of the other experts where wise enough to line up behind the likes of Steven roach etc so they were not held up behind on the first singletrack. He had a junior rider crash into his wheel, dislodging his skewer(unbeknown to him at the time) until he hit the top of the track climb, when his wheel was grinding and then, his wheel fell off!! He lost vital minutes and places here, but battled on and pulled back through the field to finish not too far behind leader expert Jonny Pugh Bulls Cycling. Well done dear! Thankfully, I had nothing do do with his wheel!!

Hali Rae running to our recovery needs, mummy and daddy course debrief?

Some other great rides and results from team mates and friends Ant White, Jay and Maddie Horton and Iwona.

Work and mummy duties all week now, until sundaywhere I will be doing a running race, just to mix things up a bit!

Phil however has been riding another sort of bike!! The kids though meeting this coming towards us on the way home was hilarious!!

We are missing the welsh champs due to a wedding but will be back on the racing front on localism turf at round three of the national series on the 17th may at Forest fields, Hundred House.

A shot from last from the last national at Newnham, cheers luke eggar!
