And now for something a little bit different... the tough, xc mountain bike is still there, but it's all going to be wrapped up in a bit of swimming and a bit of a run.

We're happy to say that the Scott xtriseries is back in town for 2013, and is bigger and better than ever before with 7 races all over the country trying to decide who is the xtriseries British Champion. In it's 3rd year now the venues have just got more idyllic and potentially outrageous. If you fancy mixing it up a bit, the swims are open water and ranging from 500m to 1.500m, roughly a 25km-30km mtb (some a lot more technical than others) and a 10km trail run (for some read that as fell run!).

Some of the unique races are Craggy Island in Scotland - you need a ferry to take everything to transition and then swim from the mainland to the wee island - then it's a 30km 'hilly' bike followed by the run/scramble of your nightmares! Most of the races are running half distance events at the same time to dip your toe in.... check out the Calendar here on xcracer.com and below as well as the www.xtriseries.co.uk website where you can enter 1 to 7 of the races, 4 entries gets you a free Scott backpack!

We've neglected to mention one very special race, it's not part of the series but is outrageous and very bike related. We've just secured the first of it's kind race at the NEC Cycle Show, the super-xtri! The race is super short and furious with a 200m swim, 3km purpose built mtb course and a 1km run - come on, you can all manage that one. I've already got a list of Pro offroad triathletes, Mountain Bikers, even runners wanting to give it a crack. There will be TT qualifiers in the morning to get you to qualify you for the afternoon Pro Eliminator Rounds with the big guns. The run even finishes in the show itself, what more could you ask for? plus obviously your ticket to the Cycle Show is included so you can look at lots of shiny new bikes and make it a day out (races are on the Saturday and Sunday), entries will open shortly for this.

We are looking to put together a good cash prize pot for the NEC race with primes, etc... if you're interested in sponsoring a section of the race or whole race then drop me a line on paul@xtriseries.co.uk

Round 1- The Tear Jerker at the Elveden Estate (26th May 2013)

An amazing place and a good starter for the season, we're starting short, flat and fast (750m/25k/5k) - not overly technical so if you haven't raced off-road before then this is a perfect starting point. visit the Elveden Estate and its 22,500 acres of land!

Round 2 - Coniston (16th June 2013)

Last years National Champs Course, it's rugged out there and uses the North Face Trail so it's brilliant fun with a bit more technical for good luck, the run is just savage but only 9km's (1k/28k/9k)

Round 3 - Parc Bryn (30th June 2013)

Used many a time before for road triathlons but not for off-road fun and games, there will be Sprint and Full distance racing going on and Stephen Corbyn the organiser is from an mtb background, it'll be a great course.

Round 4 - Pembrey (4th August 2013)

A sea swim for a bit of variety, that'll make it interesting, Stephen is the organiser again so expect another amazing bike fest and I'm sure there's going to be a tough, but manageable run.

Round 5 - Aviemore (11th August 2013)

This is new, brought to you by Paul McGreal at Durty Events, this has already generated a lot of interest, it's using an old MTB Champs course, there's lots of hills in Scotland and as you know, Aviemore is the home of outdoor activities in a stunning part of the country, go and spend a long weekend up there.

Round 6 - Craggy Island (31st August 2013)

Be quick here and get your entry in now as this is already selling out, the Sunday race is full at over 200 entries already, the Xtri Series and Scottish Champs race is on the Saturday and I've managed to secure at least 50 slots for series entries, it's the most unique of races, ferries are needed, a swim from the mainland to an island, a 30km mtb and then the run of all runs...

Round 7 - XTT (21st September 2013)

Bringing it all back home to Surrey and the woodland, no big hills but tight and twisty singletrack mixed with fast firetrails, always massively attended and a brilliant .

Come and play and give something different a go this year, it'll be fun!
