I picked my new bike up earlier this week and it's ace.
It's a Scott Scale 30 and considering this a midish-range bike it is so light. Gateway Cycles in Abergavenny sorted me out with this little black number. It's a carbon frame with a mix of shimano bits, mainly XT. It rides so well that it is difficult to imagine what the top of the range models are like. This climb by the way is literally outside my front door. No excuses for me with this terrain on my doorstep.
It's a bit strange being on a 26er after 3 years of riding the superb 29er Superfly but I'm sure I'll get used to it! On steep drops I felt as if I was going over the bars.
All I've changed from the original spec is the saddle. I had to stick on one of my old original flite saddles as soon as I got it.
It feels fast and the plan is to air it this coming weekend at the 2nd round of the Gorrick. The incredible thing about this bike is that with an alloy seatpin, stem, bars and a mix of SLX and XT it still weighs just over 22lbs. I quite like all of the alloy bits. They're reassuringly solid. To be honest I can never tighten bolts correctly. I have to tighten bolts to the point of almost shearing and carbon doesn't like that so I can tighten these bolts up and not cause too much damage(!).
Looking forward to next weekend now. The first race of the year!
