Cross racing in June.
It didn't feel that odd since it was hammering down in Gloucester and the track looked like something from late November!
With a knackerd bottom bracket and my Cannondale still poorly in the shop awaiting the most obscure BB30 washer or something, I literally dusted down the cross bike and headed for Gloucester.
Having moved from London and leaving the amazing Beastway series behind I've always missed Wednesday night racing so it was typical that with the first one scheduled in mid Wales my mounatin bike was crocked, but racing is still racing so cross bike it was. I love mid week racing, it is pretty laid back. So much so that at Gloucester even the starting loop was negiotated with the race organiser! It was pretty fast going and despite a fast start I faded to finish 4th. There were some serious cross racers out and about though who were enjoying the typical cross conditions and with cries of "how wonderful it was to be racing in mud again." They left me thinking that perhaps crossers really are a unique breed but until my BB is fixed I'll be doing more of them. The next one is in Bristol and I'll be there. I may even wear a cycling cap under my helmet and put some spikes in my race shoes.
