Treating a Cold Bleeding Cock

Had a really great week of training.  New Bike not yet arrived, but rocking the turbo!

Since the New Year, I had been feeling really fatigued for a few days after training - weather it be turbo, running or yoga.  I just felt like I wasn't recovering and getting stronger.  Very annoying as really need to up the pace now.

After 'Googleing' 'recovery after exercise', I finally came across a great website that suggested an endurance athlete should be taking in between 105-130 grams of protein a day - the average adult (not training for an endurance event) should take in between 45-65 grams a day.  I wasn't getting even close to the 60g mark let alone say 120g - the equivalent of 4 cans of tuna or 3 chicken breasts a day.

So for the past two weeks I have been having two poached eggs and a grapefruit for breakfast (and a strong coffee - I need a little help!), a snack of seeds and nuts (handful - large) at 11ish (ok and another coffee), two tins of tuna and salad for lunch, nuts and seeds again for snack mid afternoon, and two chicken breasts with broccoli and salad for dinner, blimey - what a difference - I feel strong, energetic and my muscles feel ready for more!  I can really recommend trying the same changes to anyone who also feels a lack of recovering after a session. Make sure you include plenty of vegetables and fruit though as protein tends to constipate!

Have also realised that 3 is in fact the magic number - Millie is now 3, and I can do a one hour turbo session with her sat happily at the kitchen table drawing, or painting - never thought that would ever happen - so all you mums out there who think that you can't train with the babies around - wait until they are 3 - that is the age of self entertaining!

Chatted with another parent at the school yesterday regarding my training and what prep I am taking to get ready. He has a history of mountain bike racing and was really quite good, and knows a bit about training and he did the sucking of air in through the teeth thing - (a sign of major disapproval), when he heard I was running at weekends instead of biking.  I panicked last night thinking that he may be right, BUT I have decided that NO, he is not.  Because, anyone who runs will understand, that running is not for weak drop outs, oh no, it takes a strong mind to stick to running.  THIS is what you get from running - a feeling of staying power and perseverance.  Not anyone can run, you can't 'blag' running, it takes core strength and loads of physical and mental endurance and that is what I need to stick at a twenty four hour ride.  Endurance is 80% mental -  running is a great cross over for me and it works for me.

Found one of the Cockerels this morning lying on the cold frozen ground bleeding, the other cockerel - yes we have two stupidly (- one is Freyas 'pet' and the other is the size of a small horse and you'd have to be Mike Tyson to wring its neck, so we've ended up with two) the other more dominant one had really beaten the life out of the poor thing, so it's now in a basket feeling rather sorry for itself bleeding (but hopefully recovering) by the Rayburn.  If it doesn't then Cock-au-Vin has loads of protein in doesn't it?
