Despite my declarations of  "consistency being King" I've failed to get out on my bike for almost a week now.

Since I've got a stinker of a cold and since I want a sacpegoat I'll blame the first round of the Welsh Series over in Pontypridd. In fact whilst I'm at it I'll blame the state of the British economy and the recent revolutions in the Middle east on that ill-plagued first round!

The thing is it was nothing to do with that race. I actually enjoyed myself. Rolling around in the mud whilst struggling to breathe properly is why I do this sport. In fact I was quite chuffed with my 3rd place and was able to train well the week after it. I have, up until now been averaging out at 10hours a week. Believe me that is a lot for me. I know that Matt Page probably logs that sort of time on the bike before breakfast on a Monday but for me, knocking out 40 hours over 4 weeks is a big deal. I almost lost weight.

So now I am stuck with a nasty cold. I can't whinge to my wife, she has given birth twice and thinks that all men have a pitifully low pain threshold. Instead I'm left to cough and wheeze and suck on Catarrh pastilles. I've adopted an unhealthy addiction to these little things.

Anyway, advice is what I'm after. Since I'm still suffering from my tickly cough-sounds feeble- doesn't it? Should I just get out on the bike and cough and splutter through it (since I'm down to race this weekend) or sit at home with a good book and a waterbottle full of Lemsip?!

To be honest it was riding through a cold that caused this in the first place. I actually went out and did some of those long, base miles rides feeling like poo and now I've got me tickly cough. I told you base rides were for wimps.
